Couples Therapy

Therapy with couples generally involves either helping the pair enhance the quality of their relationship or address a serious problem that is threatening to disrupt their marriage. In both cases I draw heavily upon married with baggagestrategies of Imago Relationship Therapy. This approach teaches couples how to communicate with one another so that words are taken in by the heart as well as the brain. By means of the Couples' Dialogue and other effective tools, couples are taught how to reconnect with one another so as to increase the quality of intimacy between them and to rebuild a sense of romance.

My philosophy when working with couples is similar to that suggested in these passages by Kahlil Gabran in "The Prophet":

"Love one another, but make not
a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea
between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other's cup, but drink
not from one cup.
Give one another of bread,
but eat not from the same loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous,
even as the strings of a lute are alone,
though they quiver with the same music."
