Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is your theoretical orientation?

When assessing an individual, I rely upon a developmental perspective drawing upon the work of Alfred Adler and Eric Erickson. When helping a client deal with anxiety, depression or acting-out behaviors, I rely upon cognitive behavioral techniques and hypnotherapy. When working with children, I strive to educate parents and empower them to become the agents of change.

  2. What factors contribute to a positive outcome in therapy?

The motivation and active participation of the client is the single most important factor that determines the outcome of therapy. A person or a couple who uses the therapy sessions as a stimulus for trying new thinking and behavior patterns, as well as reading and completing assignments between sessions, can make significant changes in their social and intimate connections with others, as well as his/her relationship with themselves.

  3. When should a couple who are considering a separation contact you?

A couple should contact me as soon as a possibility of a separation or divorce is being considered.

Initially, I can help them identify the factors that are contributing to their crisis. Enhancing communication, addressing unhealed wounds or re-romanticizing the relationship may be sufficient to save their marriage.

For couples who have decided to separate, I can provide mediation services to assist them in making agreements on issues such as custody, visitation and property issues.

For couples in greater conflict who wish to avoid an adversarial battle, I can help them enlist the aid of Collaborative attorneys. These specially trained lawyers represent the interest of their individual client while fostering respect and fairness between the parties. As a coach or coordinator of the process, I consult with the attorneys, keep them informed of the parties' readiness to proceed and facilitate effective communication among the team members.

  4. What are your fees for psychological services?

My customary fee is $225 per 50-minute session. Agreements with third party payers for psychotherapy may alter these fees. With patients having limited financial resources, fees can be adjusted.

  5. When are you available for an appointment?

I am in the office Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. When I am unavailable, male and female associates can work with you providing psychological assessment and psychotherapy. They are also available from early morning through early evening Monday through Friday and some Saturdays.
